We wouldn’t necessarily assume that Anna Wintour is a laugh-out-loud jokester—and she’s not—but don’t be fooled: The Condé Nast artistic director is quite funny. She’s proven that she can upstage Amy Schumer, she’s coached Seth Meyers, and last night at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, she even indulged in a bit of self-deprecation.
As The Cut reports, while introducing honoree Miuccia Prada, Wintour brought up the blockbuster movie that brought both ladies incredible attention. “For a while, it seemed that that association was the only flattering thing about the enterprise,” said Wintour of novel-turned–quotable Anne Hathaway movie The Devil Wears Prada. “And Miuccia and I never discussed it. Finally, at one of our lunches, she leaned across the table and she said, ‘Anna, that book, it’s good for both of us.’ And the subject has never come up again.”
Now, we can’t assume from this that the Vogue powerhouse has actually watched the film in its entirely (or liked it, for that matter). However, at the very least, we know that she, Prada herself, and a million girls who would kill to be a fly on the wall for that conversation can all officially agree that The Devil Wears Prada has left its mark on the fashion industry.
