One Day at a Time

You made it! Another trip round the sun is done and dusted. And now you’re looking at the year coming up. The laundry list of new years’ resolutions swimming in your head is getting longer and you want to do so much of what you missed out on in the last year. We bet there was a lot you wished you did.

So why didn’t you?

The same excuses that you have been using for as long as you can remember. The brand new gym membership you bought on the 31st of December (pick a year, you do it every time) and we know you signed up for the whole year because, of course you were going to go (plus it was cheaper by like 10%). You went in January, you woke up at 5 am and you ate right. Stepping on the scales made you smile because the needle moved in the direction you wanted. Then work, family, significant others and/or best friends got in the way and and you never went back.

That’s your problem and believe it or not there is a simple solution. How about you stop making lame resolutions every year, so that you can avoid making lamer excuses?

Make just one this year. Make yourself your #1 priority. It’s a tall order but it can be done. Make your goal to feel better and be better and everything else will follow. When your goal is to just lose weight, all your energies are concentrated in fighting those few extra inches. What after that? You will slip into your old habits and they will come sneaking back. What if, instead, you told yourself that this year you will be healthier?

Instead of making your goal about loosing x amount of Kgs, which eventually becomes a frustrating battle with yourself, parent a goal that isn’t just dependent on a single variable. What if you made your goal just to be healthier? What if each day you do one thing that makes you healthier than the day before?

Your Priority = YOU

Now, you’re not just going to eat a salad for lunch because you have to, you’re going to it because you want to. We’re creatures of habit who ironically, get bored every soon. So the same lunch everyday is going irritate you soon enough. Being healthy is more than just a small lunch. Being healthy means making small changes in your life so that you feel healthier. If that means swapping the fried chicken nuggets for some grilled chicken, you’ll do it happily.

Why should you do this?

Because, you’ve ignored it for a really long time. Your job, your family, your friends, your trainer, numerous experts, they’ve all taken precedence in your life. They should, because a lonely life is an unhappy one. This year though, put yourself on the top of the list. This is something that only you can do for yourself. No matter how much someone loves you; your mom, your BFF or your husband they can’t help you with this. Start by really thinking about the things you want to change and go beyond the ones that are purely cosmetic. Remember the time when you didn’t huff and puff after climbing 4 flights of stairs? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to do that once again?

Time is the only constant in our lives, yet we rarely have enough of it to give. This year make time for yourself. Even if it is 15 minutes a day, seek out some quiet time doing what you love. If trashy Justin Beiber lyrics make you happy then it doesn’t even have to be all that quiet. Buy a new book or volunteer at the animal shelter, do what makes you happy. If you do this everyday for one year, we can guarantee that you will be calmer and happier. And isn’t that what its all about?

We’re going to keep an eye out for everything new that can make your wellness even a tad bit simpler and we’re going to be with you every step you take. We promise to keep you on track be it your period or your daily vitamins. If you are determined not to fail in your resolution to be healthy this year, you have got to give Zena a try.
